Classic Theme For Windows 10

Postby MajorSky17 » November 3rd, 2016, 1:53 pm

Hi all,

This is a place where I intend for those of us who are interested to document the currently available ways of getting the Windows Classic theme on Windows 10. Classic was removed as a theme as of Windows 8, although the code for it still exists even in Windows 10. In Windows 8, there is a simple utility that will reactive the Classic theme for you (although Metro doesn't like it). This app also works on Windows 10, but creates issues with basic UI elements such as the taskbar and context menus, so for most it will be a no-go. (However, if you plan on experimenting, PLEASE create a restore point beforehand!)

So far, the nearest I have come to a true Classic replacement on 10 is this custom visual style over at DeviantArt. This visual style only officially supports Windows 10 Anniversary and November Update. However, if you install Theme Signature Bypass (mirror), you can get it working on any Windows 10 build. 8-)

I've always wanted to see a better version of the classic Shell! Thank you for sharing this, MajorSky17!

We're still working on that. (Or trying, atleast.)

This is a bit off topic, but the link to the Theme Signature Bypass is giving me Error 403. Does anyone have a mirror?

I had this problem yesterday for a while. It seems to be the host. I'm not aware of any mirrors online so I've just made one. :P Here it is!

Very cool stuff.

Apparently custom themes might be coming back to Windows 10. They should consult the community here!

A lot of great stuff is coming from you guys seriously. :D

Yes

Did they go away...?

Actually, if you mean the Visual Style on dA, uh...a lot of great stuff was coming from Neiio. But it was all taken down for a while. The download button you see there...is a posthumous re-release D:
As for the experimental tool to restore the REAL Classic Theme...that one isn't dead, just progressing veeeeery slooooowly...

Are you talking about the visual style or the app?
