Why I Think Windows 10 Should Be Scrapped

Postby SonicKnuckles1998 » August 16th, 2016, 3:19 am

Before you start reading, I do think some features in Windows 10 are good, like the new CMD, and the ability to use Snap in 4 corners of the screen, but I think the majority of the features are bad. Don't take it personally. It's my opinion.

Anyway, I do not like most of Windows 10's features, as it says at the top. Why is that, you may ask? Windows 10 is basically Longhorn, but without the nice UI and sidebar. In other words, all you get is a buggy mess that surprisingly got RTMed. Nothing against Longhorn loves, I love Longhorn, but it was just really buggy. Let's get started with the features I do not like in Windows 10.

The UI. I cannot stand the UI in Windows 10. Imagine if you took the Metro UI from Windows 8, Taskbar and left side of the start menu from Windows 7, Icons that look like macOS/OS X, and an Android notification centre, you get Windows 10. The UI used to be worse, but it is still really bad. Windows 8's UI was better than Windows 10. The limited amount of customisation you can do really irks me. You can only use a certain group of colours, no custom colours. (unless you use 3rd party software)

Cortana. Almost everyone who knows about Windows 10 spying knows that Cortana is one of the many things that spies on you in Windows 10. Cortana can send searches and your voice to Microsoft. I'm pretty sure some purple gorilla did that too... Luckily, you could disable Cortana, and use normal Windows search, but now in the Anniversary Update, you can't! I don't know what Microsoft is trying to do, but last time I checked, this was illegal.

Edge. Microsoft Edge is the "successor" to Internet Explorer. The only problem is, I cannot use it at all since there are certain features only in Chrome, Firefox, and even IE that Edge doesn't have. Extensions weren't even introduced until the Anniversary Update! I need Adblock to use the Internet! (obviously have it disabled here) I don't want any adware! So Microsoft wants my info and wants me to have a load of adware in return? Nice thinking.

Everything Else. Since I don't want this post to be really long, I will briefly talk about my problems that I had in my 2 years of using Windows 10. I liked build 9841, since it was just 8.1 with a start menu. But, the bad things started around 9926. I hated the UI in 9926. I just hoped that everything would be better by RTM. When RTM did roll out, I had problems with my graphics card. I got BSODs twice a day. I eventually couldn't take it anymore, so I got a new computer. It was all well and good, until around January. Keep in mind that I had the November Update, not an insider build. I started getting BSODs again. It wasn't as common as last time, but I shouldn't be getting them that common at all. Things started getting worse and worse, as it gradually got slower and slower, but I was greeted with a bootloop. So, I had to reset to factory. Sounds fun, right? When I got it restored, it was fine for a few days, but then the slowdown and BSODs returned. I thought it was Windows, so I put Windows 7 as a dual boot and tried to see if it was Windows 10 or not. Windows 7 seemed fine, and still is fine to this day. Windows 10 started getting worse. Files started getting corrupted, it kept asking for CHKDSK, and eventually all Metro-based things didn't work, like the start menu. After this, I couldn't get Windows 10 to boot at all. I was stuck on the boot screen. Windows 7 still worked properly. At this point, I was done with Windows 10 and decided to stay on Windows 7 for as long as I could.

So, what was exactly the point of the title? With all these problems happening to me and lots of other users, I decided that it would be best for Microsoft to put Windows 10 under the same light as Windows Longhorn, scrapped. They are both very buggy, and both kept getting buggy features built onto them. I decided to take action and create a petition on change.org. If you are having problems with Windows 10 and/or hate Windows 10 as a whole, sign the petition.

Wow! You got worser than me!!

I had BSODs only on TP's (before the Release), also with them I wasn't allowed to Dual Boot any OS or Windows 10 TP would wipe my hard drive...
Fast forwarding to the Release state I noticed that it was a bigger failure than the TP!! (I still has a good TP ISO stored on my hard drive)
I want to add some more Windows 10 Failures and issues:
1. Ugrading from 7 to 10 release sometimes causes Metro UI to broke (that means that you are left with nothing but blackscreen with task manager and some stuff you can open only with shortcuts - can be fixed but it's a pain and ends in some "UWP" default apps go mad and left a {Microsoft.sfsdw343-dfs3d...} kind of shortcut - unable to delete it -)
2. Metro UI, you covered something up there, but also it likes to lag and then stop working (happens a lot on my Windows tablet)
3. Reset function: Owww, Microsoft left us the the option to restore from our loved windows 7 or 8.1 recovery partition, except the fact that:
a) That option will brick any computer that doesn't even have a recovery partition (yea. one of my friends did that and guess what? Windows was bricked)
b) If you have the "AU" Update, you are stuck FOREVER on Windows 10 AU. (well, it resets but when the boot sequence begins, you are forced to wait 2+ more hours untill Windows 10 AU gets installed).
4. Why Windows 10 works extremely fine on my HP Laptop (except the fact that it keeps my CPU at 95+C and my Tjunction functions allow it to run as long as it won't hit the 100C) but on my licensed, "newer" with SSD tablet with dedicated hardware to newer Operating Systems won't run as good as my HP Laptop?! "Listen Microsoft, that HP laptop it's a Vista business based laptop, so it hasn't any 'i whatever' or '4+ GB RAM' or any awesome integrated graphics which support your stupid UWP apps, but WHY it can do all of that but my Windows Tablet can't?! It is supposed that my Windows Tablet since it's newer and came with Windows 8.1 preinstalled and doesn't have that 'driver mess' should do it better..."
5. Microsoft free support for Windows 10 - "yea, download that and run the troubleshooter, then contact our help desk through this link and have fun getting porn sites on your email" - well, that is what happened for me... and guess what? outlook allowed a weird email address to send me an email in my index because the "help desk" recommanded me to send me the fix via email.
6. The "Store", why that Store has more than enought stuff on it? WHY I would ever want to search for Microsoft sites in my Windows Store were I search ONLY for apps?
7. Drivers won't get installed. As I said in this post, yes I do own a Windows Tablet which also comes with it's integrated "docking station" where I get a crappy multi-touch touchpad, a keyboard and a USB 3.0 port which can't handle more power than how much power is required to turn on a pendrive and then use it, but, why Windows 10 kills my multi-touch and scrolling functionality of my crappy touchpad?! Also, why it won't want to automatically install the "Asus base station" driver?! It's 1 year since it's last "release" and it still won't want to install that driver and let me use the scroll function on that touchpad (it's a 2 finger gesture).

- That is what makes non-sense stuff for me with Windows 10 ! :D, oh, also, heres a picture on what I get when I want to "recycle" my windows tablet and get back to the OS I have on my recovery partition: (It won't even recognise that I have a recovery partition - Windows 10 "AU" Original)
Image

WHAT installation or recovery media?! I have it already inserted as a hidden partition by Asus! They don't even give me a DVD/CD/USB Device with that kind of stuff, but now, Windows 10 "AU" says that I need them to reset my Windows Tablet and don't loose my free Office "2013 or 365 how you want to call it" for home and students and Windows License Key since they didn't provide me any valid Windows installation key (tested, it won't work on any Windows 10 Pro/Home installation, only on that Asus installation which I don't have access to use it, unless I do some wierd stuff to get it working).

I've been lucky then, Windows 10 works perfectly fine for me. Upgraded my Macbook Pro and my iMac (twice) to Windows 10, no problems.

About that spying, privacy is pretty much dead right now if you've even touched the internet and I'd like ads targeted for me instead of seeing an ad for some store in New York.

Scrapping Windows 10 is a bit extreme. Rather make a petition to improve the Insider hub and make them change the system of handling feedback. Insiders do not represent everyone however, so it could fail at any moment, keep that in mind.

While wiping my USB drive on my iMac in the terminal, I accidentally wiped my bootcamp partition, they were both called untitled, oops :?
Reinstall went smooth though and had backups.

Then again you are using Macs, which are actually the best computers to run Windows on. I don't have one, nor have the money for one. :P

Windows 7 FTW!

I have a couple computers running 10. I haven't encountered any problems with anything (except of course old programs but that happens and can just be run in a VM). The UI is kinda ugly but thats because I am a big fan of XP and I kinda wish Microsoft would move back in that direction a little. I have disabled cortana cause that was just a pain, and nobody ever uses default Microsoft browsers anyway (except to download other browsers). I have to say that I do enjoy 10 and I don't think it should be scrapped really. It just needs a bit more work and I would like to see a little more customization ability (including startup and shutdown sounds).

Haha, I agree with everything. Do you have an AMD CPU by any chance? Cause it appears Microsft may have a deal with Intel to make Win10 like **** on AMD hardware. My Start Menu stopped working after a month (or less!) from installing it. Windows 7 (which I'm using now!) runs amazing on my PC, even though I have a awful graphics card. I swear, more people should sign your petition!

In the Pentium 4 era, Intel bribed OEMs like Dell to use Intel CPUs. I have an AMD FX 8300 and last year I instaled Win10 on it and my Start Menu stopped working after a month. Windows 7 (which I'm using now!) runs amazing on my PC. How does your petition not have more signatures? I totally agree with EVERYTHING you said!

LOL, On my old computer It worked fine for about a month, when it decided to corrupt the entire hard drive meaning that I got endless Recovery screens. Then the start menu apps stopped working and then UNINSTALLED themselves meaning that all I got were corrupted files

On my desktop, I recently had to reinstall 10, giving it a pain in my rump. Cause of it happens to be that it corrupted my MBR, (yeah, I still use it since it's a refurbished)

On my father's laptop, it kills the wifi..

It can still be around, but they need to get on gear on making it better.
