Windows NT 3.51 in VMware?

Postby SonicKnuckles1998 » June 13th, 2016, 1:57 am

I need help here. I found an image of Windows NT 3.51 on WinWorld, but when I start the VM, it is stuck at the boot screen. Does anyone here have a working image or a way of fixing the problem?

Did you get the same result as I did?

Using WinWorld's vmdk virtual drive (SCSI and IDE): Image

Using WinWorld's setup disks and iso (SCSI and IDE): Image

VMware Player info and Virtual Machine configuration(RAM and HDD space automatically selected by VMware Wizard - also tested with 1 hdd at 1 time):

Meanwhile I'll check for some fixes (or working virtual machine), just wanted to know if I get the same result as you did.

Could be that the virtual disk is corrupted, may need to look at the code inside it. (Open the VMDK file with notepad or any code editor)

I don't think so because when you use the floppy boot disks and installation ISO file and VMDK file created from VMware Player you get the same error.

Also, here it's the WinWorld's VMDK file open in Notepad++:

If you installed(?) it in Virtualbox, you get a slightly different happening.

However, this is as far as you'll get, since it keeps throwing up these errors and eventually hangs the system.

Interesting, I think I'll try on windows hypervisor later this day or in another day to see which it's the result there (I think that the result will be a new reply since I keep Hyper-V role disabled and it needs some restarts and waiting times to enable it and then disable it)

Well, I got a "BSOD" :D , after submitting the edit of this reply I'm going to remove the Hyper-V role because it's causing some problems in performance and it makes my laptop very hot (I'm speaking of temperatures - http://i.imgur.com/LVFamOJ.png ;) )
Hyper-V result:

This guy has a good tutorial on this. He does it for virtualbox but it will work for VMware:
