It's 2017. HTTP is basically unused at this point, many people and companies such as Google are trying to kill it. If you can't afford an SSL certificate from an CA, use an service from letsencrypt.

Cloudflare offers free SSL too...
It's sad that SSL isn't supported on older devices and it forces the user to use the correct date to access the website.

Opera & Bing still uses HTTP...

Also I have to currently still use HTTP on my project website too because of issues in reading .js files content & support for non-SSL users that uses my PHP code (avoid mixed content errors for HTTP users but still keep them for HTTPS users until I find a fix)

So HTTP is basically still used at this moment.
